Oklahoma City

I had an appointment yesterday in OKC and decided that I would go early and take some pictures at the Oklahoma City National Memorial to replace the ones lost in the great hard drive crash of 2009. I wanted to be there for sunrise but was late. No matter, no clouds so sunrise was a little boring.

I do love that low angle morning light though. So I walked around the Memorial and then around downtown for three hours, got some exercise and some nice photos (I like them anyway....)

I was just walking through the Memorial looking at colors and textures and the reflecting pool was as smooth as a sheet of glass. I turned back around and there was a duck standing in the pool. One duck, alone standing in the middle of the pool. As I watched he started walking away from me. I shot a few pictures and something caught my attention and I turned away. When I looked back at the pool the duck was gone and didn't even leave a ripple in the pool.

That has got to mean something, what, I don't know.

I only wish the people involved with the Memorial in New York could take a lesson from what was accomplished in OKC. Serenity, remembrance and resolve for the future. What a wonderful testament to those that died and those that suffer their loss.

What a great place downtown OKC has become. Last time I spent any real time downtown was when I was small at the bus station with the "End Of The World" guy.

In most every town I spend any time in, I notice the homeless. I have especially noticed the homeless with dogs. They can barely feed and cloth themselves yet they find a way to care for their dogs. The need for companionship by humans is only rivaled by the same need in dogs. When I returned home and viewed these photos I noted that the dog is wearing a "Service Animal" collar. It was dirty and faded and obviously was found in a pile of discarded possessions. It was a lonely man's attempt to allow his only companion an opportunity to travel freely with him as he battles the heat and cold of Oklahoma.

There are about two hundred more but this is all I have time for today.
