Gone But For The Memories

I was tempted to get all weepy and sad. I was going to write about the loss of people in our lives. I decided I am NOT going to do that.... at least until after the new year....

For now I will post this quick list of things from my childhood that are no more... this is just the short list the long one is on its way..

The contents of Beverly's Chicken in the Rough/Pancake Corner (across the street west of Pen Square Mall) is being auctioned off the first week of 2008. Here is a great piece about Beverly's . What a loss. They had really good breakfast and lunch served in a style that is almost nonexistent in this day and age.

This reminded me of so many things that I remember from the "old days" when we lived in Yukon and Elk City and traveled to Oklahoma City for appointments with my eye doctor.

We often had lunch at Glens Hickory Inn where they had a great buffet and a piano player named Wally Brown on 10th street just east of May Avenue. Really great BBQ and steaks. I remember it was seemingly very dark inside and there were items such as the comedy and tragedy masks hung on the wall and they were lit by purple, blue, green and red glowing lights.

There was a carpenter on the sign on the south side of 10th street west of the Brick plant. He was very large and had a hammer in his hand. I always pretended it was my grandfather who lived in OKC and made a living as a carpenter.

Molly Murphy's House of Fine Repute where I celebrated my 17th birthday.

All gone. And nothing to take their place.
